Aamir Khan turns 42

                                                                     Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan , Bollywood's talented actor turns a year older on March 14.

Known for his perfectionist streak and somewhat reclusive nature, Aamir has been among the top stars of Hindi film industry for quite a number of years now. Be it the heart rending Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak or hard-hitting Sarfarosh , or the Oscar nominated Lagaan or the youth inspiring Rang De Basanti , Aamir has given a number of unforgettable flicks in his entire career.

Today, he is a part of ambitious projects some of which he is producing himself.

Aamir is already neck deep in his next venture Taare Zameen Pe which is about the relationship between a father and his dyslexic child. In fact, apart from acting in the movie, Aamir has also been partly directing it.

After this, Aamir gets busy with his Hindi remake of the Tamil hit Ghajini in which he plays an amnesiac hero. The Hindi version will be directed by A.R. Murugadoss, who directed the Tamil movie.

And by the end of this year, Aamir will begin shooting for Mani Ratnam's movieLajjo in which Kareena Kapoor will be his heroine.

Aamir is not just passionate about movies but also about social issues. His statements in support of the displaced people of Narmada dam created a furore in Gujarat last year. Apart from this, he likes to be part of movie projects that have some kind of message to give to the masses.

However, we have just one grudge with Aamir: we wish he shouldn't shun the media as much as he does. But we still love him.

Aamir and Kareena paired for the second time

                                                               Aamir khan in movies "Lajjo"
Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor came within inches of working together for the first time when Vishal Bhardwaj contemplated signing them for his now shelved project 'Mr Singh and Mrs Mehta'. Sadly, the project could never take off.

But the stellar pairing will indeed happen in Mani Ratnam 's next movie Lajjo , which is an adaptation of Ismat Chugtai's short story of the same title.

And none is more elated than Kareena who is a self-confessed admirer of Aamir.

Bebo has already started reading Chugtai's book in order to understand the nuances of her character in the movie.

This would be second consecutive movie based on literary adaptation that Kareena would work in. She was recently seen playing an Indianized Desdemona in Bhardwaj's Omkara .

Lajjo will also be yet another period movie for Aamir after Lagaan and Mangal Pandey The Rising .

The story of Lajjo is set in Rajasthan. It is based on a female-centric theme.

The shooting will begin in January next year. As of now, Ratnam is busy with his movie Guru .

A R Rahman will compose the music for Lajjo while Gulzar will pen the lyrics. The film will be produced by Bobby Bedi.

Mani Ratnam to revive 'Lajjo'

                                                                mani ratnam

Bollywood grapevine has it that filmmaker Mani Ratnamis thinking of reviving Lajjo .

The film, announced last year, is still nowhere close to beginning despite the fact that Mani Ratnam had even finalized Aamir Khan andKareena Kapoor to play the lead roles.

It is believed that Mani and producer Bobby Bedi don't see eye-to-eye on certain issues about the project. Reports say that Bobby is not keen on producing the film.

But Mani Ratnam seems determined to make 'Lajjo'. He has reportedly been having constant meetings with writer Renzil D'Souza to write the script.

Not just Ratnam, even Aamir Khan is very eager to see that the film is made. Contrary to certain reports, Aamir says he is not responsible for the film's delay.

The shooting of the film was expected to begin by the end of year 2007. Now, if all goes well, the movie may go on the floors early next year.

                                                                Kareena in movies" Lajjo"

Kareena Kapoor is always open to work withAamir Khan. It was her long time wish to act with Aamir and she got the golden chance in ‘3 Idiots’. Now another opportunity has come her way to work alongside with the Mr. Perfectionist. Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor will be seen inMani Ratnam’s ‘Lajjo’, the project which was almost shelved due to money constraints. The film talks about a love story at the time of partition.

It is a big budget film and Mani Ratnam revives it on looking at Aamir-Kareena’s chemistry in ‘3 Idiots’. He saw that the audience cherished their pair and like to see them together again. Mani is very excited about the project and he has a high expectation from the film. The songs has already been penned by Gulzar and composed by AR Rahman.
Talking about her role in the film, Kareena said, “I will be too happy. Giggly, girlie, Barbie doll roles don’t bring out the actor in me. I want to be challenged. I can’t play the singing, dancing mannequin any more. I’ve realised that as an actor, playing varied roles is what I enjoy the most. I’m starving for good roles. My characters in Ra.One and Saif’s home production Agent Vinod are powerful roles.”
Aamir, Kareena to rock again!

me to prepare for the role until next winter," she said.

out."

"You know, it can't be a coincidence that I'm doing two literary
adaptations one after another - first Shakespeare in 'Omkara' and now
Ismat Chughtai's story 'Lajjo'.
"I know Urdu is a long way off from Shakespeare. But literature is
literature, and I'm glad I've arrived at this new juncture in my career so
effortlessly."
"Lajjo" is Kareena's second period film after "Ashoka" and she has
already started reading Chugtai's period love story.

Rukh Khan. Now it's with Aamir in 'Lajjo'. It's every actress's dream to
work with Aamir. When I saw 'Rang De Basanti', I was jealous. I wanted to
be a part of it," she said.

has gone on record to talk about what a special performance she gave in
"Yuva".
"Is it so?" Kareena asked delightedly. "He is definitely one of the most
special directors I've worked with. When he contacted me to do 'Lajjo', I
couldn't believe my luck. This was just what I wanted to do after 'Omkara'.
I can't forget what fun I had shooting for 'Yuva' in Kolkata and
Chennai."
"Now I can't wait to start work on 'Lajjo' with Mani sir and Aamir.
You know, I came close to working with Aamir in Bharadwaj's 'Mr Singh
& Mrs Mehta'.

each other. Now I'm doing another intense love story with Aamir and I
can't wait to start,"

Plot

The story revolves around a bachelor Mirza sahib(played byAamir Khan), who has not seen or felt a woman’s presence in his life since his mother passed away. He lives his predictable life running a general provisions store and going to brothels-until the arrival of "Lajjo"(Kareena Kapoor). Lajjo is a young orphan who has survived by selling her body to men who have abused her. She is taken to Mirza’s house by a friend who says he should have a house maid. Lajjo falls in love with the house, and the fact there is no other woman there, refuses to leave even as Mirza sahib is calculating the unnecessary expense, and struggling with the uncomfortable thought of having a woman in his house. Lajjo prevails and transforms the house. Mirza first falls for her cooking and then for her charms. He stops going to brothels, and each day is now full of excitement and anticipation. Even sales increase at the store when Lajo walks in with his lunch box in her sexy lehnga(long skirt). Then possessiveness begins to rear its ugly head as Mirza starts getting jealous of all the male attention Lajjo evokes and decides to marry her much against her protests. Lajjo is true to Mirza and doesn’t think she needs to be married to be his. Marriage predictably changes things. The sexy Lajjo is now made to wear traditional clothes -the freedom that she so enjoys is curbed along with the attire. The traits that Mirza found sexy in her, are now considered obscene and to discover that brazen sensuality Mirza used to find at home he has now begun frequenting the brothels again. Lajjo finally loses her patience and looks elsewhere for love-in the arms of a young man(rumours indicate Madhavan orAbhishek Bachchan to play this part) who often pretended to fly kites over her courtyard just to ogle at her. The duo is caught red handed by Mirza who beats her up and then divorces her.. a few days later she walks back into the house as his maid and things go back to where they were before the ties of matrimony tore them asunder!

Mani Ratnam’s Lajjo starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor

                                                            Amir khan in movie LAJJO

This film was planned almost a decade or half a decade before. Mani Ratnam’s fans and followers, at that time, had listed Lajjo as the next film of Mani Ratnam. Mani Ratnam almost had started the film with Gulzar and AR Rahman both doing their respective jobs.

The film is a period film which is set to happen at the time of partition. Lajjo is Mani Ratnam’s passionate film which he had to drop due to budget constraints at that time. Now, he will be doing this film before casting Ranbir Kapoor in his next film.
More than Aamir Khan who is composed all the time, Kareena Kapoor is on cloud nine after being signed up for ‘Lajjo’. She says, “I will be too happy.
After making ‘Raavanan’ for Rs. 120 crores and selling the distribution rights of the film for Rs. 350 crores, Mani Ratnam seems to possess the right budget for the making of the film ‘Lajjo’. Guess, this film set during partition will be only dubbed in Tamil!
However, Mani Ratnam probably feels it too early to confirm this report neither does Aamir Khan nor Kareeena
